After 37 dedicated years as the Group Scout Leader of Penistone Scouts, Steve Roach formally retired from his role at the group AGM this week.

Steve has done a huge amount for the group, something we’ll be reflecting on in the near future. In the meantime, we’d like to ask your support for the following:

Steve and one of his daughters (Susie – a Cub Leader at Penistone) will be, in their words, “shuffling up Mount Kilimanjaro for Diabetes UK

Rather than rewrite Susie’s words, please find below details of their challenge:

In October Papa Roach and I (minus Dudley Dog – not a big fan of planes!) will be attempting to summit Mount Kilimanjaro 🙂 This has been something Papa Roach has wanted to do for a long time so we are very excited about the challenge ahead.

We have decided to raise funds for Diabetes UK due to the inspiration of an amazing cool 5 year old little girl and her diagnosis this summer. Grace and her family have taken everything in their stride and have all been truly amazing since the diagnosis and adapting to life with type 1 diabetes.  We would like to raise funds to go into the research of Type 1 Diabetes so the charity can invest in pioneering, life-changing research into care, treatment and prevention and ensure children with diabetes have the correct support and care required.

We are truly grateful for any donations you can give. Anyone that knows my Dad will know he is famous for his walking catchphrase ‘come on team let’s shuffle’ so hopefully we can ‘shuffle’ successfully to the top and raise of lots of money in the process.

Thank you for your kind support 🙂
Susie

Steve has the following words he’d like to add:

As you may know I have stepped down as GSL for Penistone Scout Group, and am continuing to support the Group as a member of the Scout Adult Support Team (Falcons).

I am attempting to summit Kilimanjaro along with Susie one of our Cub Leaders and would be grateful if could consider supporting Diabetes UK as per the attached information.

I appreciate that we have been very busy fundraising for the Jamboree but this particular expedition is a one-off, any donations to the just giving page if you are able would be used towards supporting young people with Diabetes.

Thanking you in anticipation.
Steve
