Rewind: Edition 8 – the week, recapped, plus bonus materials

Each Sunday, we take a look back over our week of Scouting. Recapping and linking back to posts of the week. Alongside this, we’ll share some additional content that didn’t necessarily make it in the initial cut; we'll usually supplement important info for the coming week too.

This week:

Group branded clothing and apparel

We’ve launched our group branded clothing line and apparel on the group web store. Copies of the brochure either have been or will be, sent home with the children. Since we told you about it last week, we’ve added the final pictures and added some additional sizing.

Samples are available to view at the Scout Hut; for full details and to visit the virtual shop, click here.

Boomer Beavers doh’d it up

Similar to Millstones, we made Play-Doh at Beavers this week.

Scorpion Explorers held robot wars

Eat your heart out Craig Charles – our explorer scouts held their very own robot wars.

Viernes completed part of their Chef badge

Our Friday Scouts were asked to make a prawn salad, then plan a main meal and dessert (they’ll cook these next week). Fear not health and safety folks; they also completed a food hygiene comprehension test! In the spirit of competitiveness, we dubbed the whole thing Masterchef. Points were awards for look, taste, creativity and hygiene.

Millstones Beavers invested new members

Not only did our Friday Beavers make play doh (and things with it), they welcomed and invested 4 new Beavers,

Reminders & key information:

Beavers

Beaver panto/sleepover deadline – Those that wish to attend this year’s Beaver panto plus sleepover need to ensure they get their booking and payment in by this Tuesday, please.

Joint Beaver meeting – All Beaver colonies are meeting at the Scout Hut on Tuesday this week. The children are going to be outside therefore need to be suitably dressed (hat, gloves and bring a torch) please. Parents/Guardians are invited to please stay at the Scout Hut whilst the walk takes places for an information evening.

Cubs

Bella Vista Caving trip  – There are a handful of spaces remaining for the Cub Caving trip to Alderley Edge. Please let Sam or Shauna know ASAP if you’re attending.

Space Centre visit – We’re still taking booking for the District trip to the National Space Centre (visit on 10th March). This is a Penistone organised event for the Barnsley District Cubs. Please see the event page for full details and the booking form.

Alegre Cubs meeting – Tuesday Cubs are meeting on Thursday instead. It’s a joint meeting with the Bella Vista pack at the Scout Hut.

Scouts & Explorers

Engima split – This and next week, Monday Scouts are splitting into two. One-half rifle shooting at the Scout Hut, the other visiting Think Forensic. It’s essential that we have a rifle consent for your child, without one, they will not be able to shoot. Grab a consent form here.

Bowling tournament – All Scouts and Explorers are invited to take part in a ten-pin bowling tournament on 20th February. We’ve added the event to our calendar. For bookings and full information, please visit the dedicated page for this event.

Leaders

Leader meeting – All leaders and sectional assistants are invited to a Leader’s meeting on Monday, 7pm, at the Scout Hut. Please make every effort to attend – it makes a real difference being able to get everyone on the same page in person. If you haven’t already got your Penistone Scout Group email set-up, Rob will be running a clinic – bring your devices and he’ll help you out. Please enter via the Beaver Lodge. Engima Scouts will be rifle shooting in the main hall.

And finally:

We know we keep asking for volunteers, sometimes cheekily and sometimes we just outright tell you we need people. We have huge plans to extend the Scout Hut and open several more sections. The waiting list has over 200 children on it; with the wait time between 2 and 2.5 years for some sections. We absolutely need to address this – we can’t do so without your help. Please, if you can give some time to our Scout Group, be it behind the scenes, as an occasional helper or even as a uniformed leader – we need more adult support. As always, please take a look at our volunteering post here.
