Scouts

Enigma will be celebrating their first birthday on Monday evening. We will be at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre between 18:00 and 21:00. Please make sure your scout brings with them their £5 contribution, a towel and change of clothes – they are likely to get wet.

Wibbles have planned to meet at Go Outdoors; the team there do some excellent demos and explain what equipment is worth getting and what to avoid. Alison will send full details out prior to the section meeting during the week.

Viernes are meeting at the Scout Hut, partaking in an event Nathan’s leading called, “Minute to win it“.

Late Spring camp – Friday scouts have a one night camp in the diary on the 15th June. Rob emailed out details of this earlier in the week; please remember to book your scout on – we are trialling online payments for this event! Any issues regarding it, please contact Rob.

Explorers

Unfortunately, there will be no Explorers this week; we don’t have enough adults available for the section meeting. If you can help out on an irregular basis, please get in touch. We hate having to cancel any section meeting; it’s bitterly disappointing for the young people. If we manage to resolve this between publication and Tuesday, we will get an email out to parents/guardians.

Everyone

Scouttastic – In a couple of months, we’ll be at Hesley Wood for Scouttastic. If you’ve booked a place, we need to start making sure that monies are please paid to your Section Leaders. The group have already committed places. In addition, to support the young people, we need more adult support for the event please. Sam will have emailed you all this week; please do get in touch if you can help in any way. Thank you.

Penistone Gala weekend – Scouts are heavily involved in Penistone Gala; it’s a truly fabulous community weekend with something for everyone. Amongst our sharing of promotional materials regarding the weekend, we are going to be seeking support from you lovely people – this will vary from cake baking, helping to run catering stalls, as marshalls and many other things. If you already know you can help us, please let Steve Roach know so he can factor in your wonderful support.

Section Leaders

On Monday evening, there’s a Gala planning meeting between 19:15 and 20:30 in the Beaver Lodge. Please either attend or send a suitable deputy. The previously scheduled Leader’s meeting has been cancelled.

With the reminders out of the way, let’s recap the week and see the additional footage.

This week:

Langsett walks

Alegre and Bella Vista cub packs both took a walk around Langsett reservoir.

Royd Moor walk

All three beaver colonies had a joint meeting, taking a walk around Royd Moor. They got to meet, Rosie, one of our beaver leader’s horse. Thank you to the parents who came along to help out.

Leadership experience

Patrol Leaders from our Wibbles troop led the section meeting on Wednesday running activities; they’ve been working towards their leadership badges.

Den building

Raptors got back to basics this week. They learnt some basic knot tying and used the skills they’d picked up to begin to assemble dens.

Cook and burn

Our explorers spent the evening playing games and burning things. Who doesn’t like a fire!?!

Jambo fundraising

Scouts and Explorers from our World Jamboree group have been hard at work fundraising towards their £57,000 goal. Despite being completely sleep deprived due to pulling an all-nighter at Ice Sheffield, they still managed to raise £474 bag packing at Morrisons in Ecclesfield.

Additionally, they raised a fabulous £265 hosting a curry evening at Curry Mahal, Dodworth on Tuesday evening.

Subzero sleepover

One hundred young people spanning our beaver, cub, scout and explorer sections met at Ice Sheffield on Friday for an evening of high ropes, ice skating and enjoying a subzero sleepover!

And finally:

Canoeing for the group

Our Scout group were very fortunate to receive a grant to purchase some canoeing equipment; once we’ve sourced a suitable trailer, we are looking forward to getting out with the different sections to enjoy them. A handful of Engima troop went over to Manvers on Saturday to try their hand at slalom canoeing!
