Reminders & key information:

Sunday again! Where do these weeks go? We’ve had a full week, including the weekend, of Scouting this week.

This edition’s reminders:

Beavers

Farm to Fork sessions – All Beavers are at Tesco this week. We managed to reschedule the “Farm to Fork” trips that were snowed off earlier in the year. As always, dedicated event pages can be found as follows: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Uniform required, with drop off / pick up at the entrance to Tesco Penistone.

Cubs

Swimming (Bella Vista & Alegre) – Cubs from Bella Vista and Alegre are meeting on Tuesday @ Calypso Cove (Metrodome) @ 18:15. Dedicated event page for this here. Bella Vista won’t be meeting on Thursday of this week.

Navigation skills (Raptors) – Cubs from Raptors will be at the school as usual on Thursday. We will be doing navigation skills on the field, so please dress appropriately and bring a water bottle!

Bella Vista spring camp –  Our Bella Vista cubs have their Spring Camp next weekend; which includes an exciting trip to visit Bella Vista Tower. Payments are now overdue, so can please confirm attendance and make payment ASAP.

Scouts

Homemade pizza & Fire Station visit (Viernes) – Friday scouts split in half last week; this week we see a reversal of the programme. Half the troop remaining at the Scout Hut making pizzas from scratch, with the other half heading to Penistone Fire Station. Unfortunately, no one was at the Fire Station last week – they must have been called out. We will rearrange another session so that those who should have met the Fire team last week don’t miss out.

Bike maintenance & wide games (Enigma) – Monday scouts should meet at the Scout Hut at our usual time, please. We will be walking up to Cycle Penistone for a bike maintenance workshop followed by wide games on the showground. Please make sure you bring a coat and a drink.

Chef’s badge (Wibbles) – Our Wednesday troop will be working on their Chef’s badge this week. Please remember to bring either recipe books, or have a look at an idea in advance.

Explorers

Scorpions – Normal time and at the normal location please

Leaders and section helpers

Leader meeting – Our Group Scout Leader, Steve Roach, has called an extraordinary leader’s meeting for Monday 23rd April, 19:00 @ the Scout Hut in the Beaver Lodge.

With the reminders out of the way, let’s recap the week and see the additional footage.

This week:

Raptors @ Quest Taekwondo

Cubs from our Raptor cub pack tried out the Olympic standard taekwondo training at Quest Taekwondo. Mike, from QT, was really impressed with the Cubs and the way they listened and really engaged with the exercises, they represented Raptors really well!

Quest is looking to grow their membership, so please find attached a letter about them. This is not just for kids! All the sessions are mixed, so kids and adults train at the same time – come on parents, get stuck in!

Rugby tag @ Wortley Rugby Club

Bella Vista Cubs, Alegre Cubs and all of our Beaver colonies went to Wortley this week and enjoyed a session of tag rugby as well as refining their rugby skills.

Thank you to Jim for organising this, and in particular to the folks of RUFC for the sessions they provided. Our young people had a wonderful time.

Wibbles played wide games

New club forming in Wibbles troop tonight…. let’s call them the one-armed bandits for now! 2 broken elbows and a broken wrist made an appearance (all outside of scouting by the way) but it didn’t stop them from playing wide games in the park.

A welcome evening of fun and games filled with sweaty scouts and lots of fantastic teamwork capturing many flags! Roll on many more days of sunshine so we can keep enjoying the fun outside.

Enigma went swimming at Calypso Cove

Scouts from our Monday troop went swimming at the Metrodome, enjoying the revamped and refreshed pools, diving area and slides.

Viernes made pizzas and visited the Fire Station

Scouts from our Friday troop split in half. One half walked to the Fire Station, which unfortunately was closed – we assume they were called out! The other half made pizzas from scratch. Next week, the programme will be flipped. We also invested six scouts and expect to invest a further four next week. We also gave out over 60 achievement badges!

Wibbles scouts challenge badge work

Eight scouts from our Wibbles troop travelled to the Peak District this weekend to meet with one of the Peak Rangers, Harriet, On Saturday, they went pond dipping, then out for a walk where the group then helped clear cluttered footpaths of overgrown trees. On Sunday, they went on a walk into Padley Gorge to look at the landscape, wildlife and explore along the riverbank. The scouts returned to the barn to say farewell to their Rangers before a welcome ice cream and the train ride home.

For more pictures and a full round-up, see a dedicated post here.

Beaver Pirate Camp

Our three beaver colonies headed to the coast (Robin Hood’s Bay) for the weekend. A luxurious coach (get you Amy!) taking them on Friday evening for 48 hours of what one Beaver referred to as, “the best days of their lives“. A fantastic time was had by all – about a million photos were taken by the leader team, so please feel free to enjoy dedicated posts for the first 24hrs here and last 24hrs here.

And finally:

Superheroes assemble

We’re delighted to have had a new assistant scout leader (Richard) and a new sectional assistant (Emily) start with Friday scouts in the last couple of weeks.

As we mentioned last week, we really need to get some additional adult support for our Explorer unit. If you could manage even one meeting a month, that’d help us out massively.

If back office support is more your thing, we need extra people to lighten the load there too. Please get in touch with us for an informal chat.

Thank you!
