Reminders & key information:

Lots of our sections are out and about this week, so please make sure you use the linked event pages for key information.

Beavers

Easter Bunny hunt – No meetings Tuesday or Wednesday; we are all meeting Friday 6.30-7.45pm for an Easter Bunny Hunt. We will meet at Cubley Hall* and not the Scout Hut. Please make sure your child is wearing a coat, wellies and has a torch, please. If you haven’t replied to confirm if your child is attending (or not) please drop Amy an email ASAP. (*Enter Cubley Hall by the main entrance. At the bar, turn left and then left again into the room with glass doors)

Pirate camp – We’ve passed the deadline for pirate camp monies to be paid. If you’re on Chief Elf Amy’s naughty list (Christmas throwback!) then please contact Amy (details on the dedicated event page)

Cubs

Raptors – Easter egg hunt. Normal times (6:30pm to 8:00pm) but please meet at St Saviours Church. The jamboree team will be present to run some games of bingo with Easter prizes. Please send your cub with at least £1 and possibly £2 to buy a bingo ticket or two. All proceeds are to help to the next jamboree.

Alegre – Normal meeting time, at the scout hut, please.

Bella Vista – Keeping with the Easter theme. Games and Easter fun at the Scout Hut.

Scouts

Enigma – It’s the final phase of the Monday scout troop Entertainers badge. Scouts are to arrive for 7pm for last minute practice. Parents to arrive for 8pm to watch the performances, please.

Wibbles – Normal meeting time, at the scout hut, please.

Viernes – Normal meeting time, at the scout hut, please; however, dress up warm – we are intending to head out for a wide game. (If the weather is bad, we will drop back to our hobbies badge work – look out for an email in the week)

Caving (Viernes) – In February, we had to postpone a caving trip due to snow. Sunday 25th March is the rescheduled trip. We’ve emailed parents/guardians of those young people who were confirmed on the original trip first. On Monday 19th March, we will open up invitations to the rest of the troop.

Black Country (Summer Camp 2018) – Deposits are now overdue for our scout and explorer summer camp to the Black Country. If your young person would like to go, please let Amy know ASAP.

Krakow (Poland) 2019 Information evening – We’re hosting an information evening (6th April 2018) regarding our planned trip to Poland next year. The trip is open to scouts who will be aged 12+ after 21st April 2019, explorers, leaders and parents/guardians.

Explorers

Scorpions – Quest Taekwondo

Leader training day

All leaders – On Sunday 25th March, we have a leader training day at the Scout Hut. This is a drop in session to allow people to get their training records updated and discuss with Laura and Brian training needs. An email will come out later this week with more details.

Everyone

Textiles collection – Our jamboree unit have been collecting textiles as part of their fundraising activities. Bags for these went out via many of the section meetings this week. If you’ve donations, clothes, bags, hats, belts, cuddly toys, shoes (tied together please), curtains and bedding (no duvets or pillows please, you can drop them back to the scout hut either via your regular meeting slot, or alternatively Wednesday 6:30 to 9pm or Friday 6pm to 9pm. If you don’t have a bag but have donations, please put them in a black bin bag and bring them down (as advertised) and we’ll transfer them into specific charity bags. Thank you!

Getting in touch – We have a positive problem – we’re a large and successful scout group. Given the size of the group, not everyone knows everyone. With this in mind, it’s important that we use a structured contact system. We ask for your support using it, and not to just contact individuals you might just have details for. For a comprehensive look at parent/guardian contact methods, please see the following page on our website.

With the reminders out of the way, let’s recap the week and see the additional footage.

This week:

We’ve had another busy week of scouting, with many of the sections heading out!

Zorbing beavers

Tuesday beavers had a fabulous night zorbing at Stocksbridge Leisure Centre. Massive thanks to the folks at the centre for the past three sessions – it’s been amazing!

Fire Station visits

Millstones and Boomer beavers visited Penistone Fire Station this week. All three colonies have now been – a great time was had by all, especially on the hoses! Thank you so much to the to all the staff who made this possible.

Raptors pottered about

Cubs from our Raptors pack went to Pottering Around in Chapeltown

Viernes shot and played bingo

Scouts from our Friday troop took part in an extended meeting. We managed to get over 40 scouts to shoot twice on our purpose built range. (Thank you to Amy, Steve, Sam, Shauna and Rob F for coming to run this). Whilst waiting their turn to shoot, scouts got extremely competitive and excited over several rounds of bingo!

Wibbles and Scorpions shooting

Scouts and explorers also got to use our scout group’s shooting range. It ended up being quite handy that Bella Vista Cubs went bowling – we were able to leave the range up so that other sections could use it later in the week!

Bella Vista & Alegre went bowling

Cubs from our Tuesday and Thursday packs each gathered at Metrodome Bowling for a mini-bowling tournament.

Group trip to Sheffield Arena

In spite of the awful snow, many group members and their families met at Sheffield Arena to support and watch Sheffield Steelers take on Nottingham Panthers in an exciting ice hockey match. Penistone folk certainly have spirit; one individual turned their car around, then caught the train to the event and back. Thank you, everyone, for representing our group.

And finally:

Barnsley District awards evening

Several of our group members have been invited to receive awards at this year’s Barnsley District awards meeting. To all of you attending, well done, and we look forward to seeing some photographs later in the week.
