Reminders & key information:

Lots of our sections are out and about this week, so please make sure you use the linked event pages for key information.

Beavers

Castors – Our Tuesday beavers are heading to Stocksbridge Leisure Centre to try their hands at zorbing. Full details can be found on the following dedicated event page. Please note that this is on Wednesday and not Tuesday. Parents/Guardians need to remain at the Leisure Centre to help their youngster out with getting changed. There won’t be a Tuesday meeting.

Boomers – Wednesday beavers are meeting at Penistone Fire Station at 17:30. Due to the earlier start, the meeting will finish at 18:30

Millstones – Friday beavers are meeting at Penistone Fire Station at 17:30. Due to the earlier start, the meeting will finish at 18:30.

Pirate camp – The balance of our pirate camp monies is due by Friday 16th March. If you are unsure how much you currently owe, please contact Amy (details on the dedicated event page)

Bunny hunt – the week commencing 19th March, we have a joint beaver meeting on Friday 23rd. It’s an Easter bunny hunt at the scout hut! Parents/Guardians should have received an email in the last few weeks; you need to please respond to Amy (preferably via email) to let her know if your child is attending. There will be no beaver meetings on the Tuesday or Wednesday of that week.

Back to basics camp – details about an upcoming “back to basics” camp were emailed out recently. As with all events at Penistone Scout Group, we have a dedicated event page. If you haven’t seen the email, be sure to check out this exciting event for our beavers.

Cubs

Alegre – Our Tuesday cubs are bowling at the Metrodome in Barnsley. Full details can be found on the following dedicated event page. Please note the earlier start time!

Bella Vista – Our Thursday (Penistone) cubs are bowling at the Metrodome in Barnsley. Full details can be found on the following dedicated event page. Please note the later finish time!

Raptors – Look out for an email from the Raptor leader team about this week’s plans.

Scouts/Explorers

All meetings are at their usual time and at their usual locations.

Scorpion, Wibbles and Viernes will be having a go at our new rifle activity this week. In order for young people to be able to try this activity, signed consent forms MUST be returned on the night. PSG Rifle Consent

Viernes – please watch out for an email about caving later this month. We previously got snowed off. We are aware not everyone who was down for the first event can make the revised date, so we’re looking to see what we can do.

Everyone

Those that have signed up for the Sheffield Steelers vs Nottingham Panthers ice hockey tournament will be delighted to know that the event is less than a week away! For details of the arrangements and a reminder about what you need to take, please refer to the following dedicated event page.

Jamboree fundraisers

The next fundraising meeting takes place at the scout hut on Sunday 18th March.

Leaders

The 12th March (tomorrow) sees the next leader meeting. All leaders are asked to please attend.

With the reminders out of the way, let’s recap the week and see the additional footage.

This week:

After last week’s almost complete white out of section meetings, we’re delighted to have had a much better week of scouting this week!

Zorbing beavers

It was the turn of Millstones to get inside some giant balls and try their hand at zorbing this week.

Skills badge-work

Wibbles learned how to wire a plug, tie some knots, carve bars of soap into weird and wonderful creations and iron items of clothing. A thoroughly impressive array of skills on show.

Pumps, ready!

Tuesday beavers headed to Penistone Fire Station. They met firefighters, learned how to use some of the equipment and even got to try their hands at some hose control. We even invested some new beavers – what a venue for it!

Den building

Scouts from our Monday (Enigma) troop spent the evening building dens. Some classic scouting in the form of pioneering!

Out of this world

Cubs from around the district went to the Space Centre in Leicester. For the full round-up of this event, please see the following dedicated post.

And finally:

Mother’s Day success

We were delighted at the response our Mother’s Day afternoon tea event received. Congratulations to the team on raising over £600. We’ve received some lovely feedback praising the politeness of the young people.
