Weekly meetings – There are no section meetings as it’s half term! Things go back to normal again from the 19th February. Look out for Fast Forward next Sunday for timely reminders of that coming week.

 

Cubs

There are a handful of spaces available on the Alegre (Tuesday) Cubs caving trip next weekend (18th February). If you’re interested, please contact Sam directly via the details in the event page.

 

Parents / Guardians / Friends of the group

Call my wine bluff – On Saturday 17th February, we have a jamboree fundraising evening for adults. For full details, please see this post

 

Jamboree Contingent

Fundraising meeting – All the young people who are part of the group’s 2019 contingent need to be at the Scout Hut for 16:30hrs on 18th February, please. We have several planning meetings throughout the year – all of these can be found in the group calendar. Parents/Guardians – please attend with your child – thank you.

 

With the reminders out of the way, let’s recap the week and see the additional footage.

This week:

Pancakes & Chinese New Year

Our Tuesday and Wednesday Beavers enjoyed making and eating pancakes (given no meeting on pancake day next week).

Friday Beavers indulged in food surrounding the Chinese New Year trying spicy noodle soup, prawn crackers and lemon tea.

All of our beaver colonies learned about the Chinese New Year. Millstones watching a video before making a red gift envelope and learning the Chinese meaning of tangerines and fortune cookies. Boomers and Castors created lanterns and tried lots of different foods including noodles, prawn crackers and sweet and sour sauce.

The Beavers practiced saying, “Gong Hei Fat Choi” which is a Chinese greeting commonly used at this time of year to wish prosperity and good health to the recipient.

 

Mini beaver

Boomer Beavers were delighted to meet our new mini Beaver, Laura’s new baby.

 

Chief Scout’s Silver Award

Bella Vista Cubs awarded three Chief Scout’s Silver awards. Massive well done to you all!

 

Taekwondo

Wednesday Scouts (Wibbles) went to Quest Taekwondo and had an energetic two-hour session with Master Mike McKenzie learning the basics.

 

Love is in the air

Friday Scouts (Viernes) learned how to make a rose from a napkin before decorating it and creating a card for their chosen loved one.

Supporting “Safer Internet Day”

Via our social media channels, we shared our support for Safer Internet Day 2018. Bullying is something we take very seriously in Scouting and we hope we pass on good values to our Young People to prevent it happening. Messing about on the river / DofE training

It’s not just the kids who have targeted achievements: Alison completed her third session of narrowboat training. She’s a few more to go before she can get a permit to take group members upon the Wakefield Scouts Narrowboat. Phil Daniels completed his Duke of Edinburgh Supervisors course and Peter Lamb (and Phil Daniels) attended a Duke of Edinburgh assessor course over the weekend.

 

Caving snowed off

Unfortunately, the first Viernes (Friday) Scouts caving trip of the year was snowed off. A revised date will be found and we’ll make sure those who should have gone today (Sunday) get first dibs on places.

 

And finally:

“Everybody needs good neighbours”

We are very lucky to have supportive and friendly neighbours at the Scout Hut. Bruce shared a post talking about the work we’ve been doing with these lovely people and asked everyone to consider a few pointers when traveling to and from the group premises.
